An official of Team Energy’s (TE) coal-fired power plant in Pagbilao town has accused the international environment organization Greenpeace of dumping sewage with high coliform content into Tayabas Bay during its three-day protest there last month.

But Greenpeace quickly parried the accusation, calling TE’s claim a “smear campaign” with the “underhanded agenda to discredit our organization and deflect attention away from their own environmental misdeeds.”

Greggy Romualdez, TE external affairs head, claimed in a statement that while it was docked at the plant’s pier last May 24, Greenpeace’s flagship Rainbow Warrior released an undetermined amount of white frothy liquid into the bay at around 10:45 a.m.
