Colorado School Closures List: St Vrain Valley, Littleton, Aurora

Due to severe winter weather in Colorado, schools have been closed, an H1N1 clinic has been shut down and Denver International Airport is currently experiencing major delays and cancellations.

Snow will continue to fall today and into tomorrow, and 4 to 8 inches are expected in the mountains and the eastern plains, and about 12 inches are expected in the foothills of Jefferson, Boulder and Larimer Counties.

Some school areas are closed completely and some are having delayed openings. An H1N1 clinic has also been closed.

St Vrain Valley School District is open and buses are running but after-school activities have been canceled.

There is a storm warning however for Fort Collins, Nunn, Arvada, Golden, Lakewood, Aurora, Denver, Denver International Airport, Littleton, Parker, Castle Rock, Kiowa, Briggsdale, Larkspur, Grover, Raymer, Stoneham, Fort Lupton, Roggen and Greeley. This storm warning is in effect until Thursday at 6pm and already the seasonal total for snow is 6.2 inches.

Authorities are warning drivers that driving conditions will be dangerous and the roads will be packed with snow and slush, so if you have to drive, drive slowly and carefully and make sure you have winter tires.

At the Denver International Airport, airlines have the final say on whether to cancel flights. Frontier Airlines have canceled some flights and United Airlines have canceled some flights. Both Frontier and United and even Southwest have extended travel waivers to passengers for today and tomorrow so that if passengers want to switch their flights they will not have to pay a fee to do so.

Please check with your airline before heading to the airport so as not to waste time. Snow crews are working at the airport but with more snow expected, it is reasonable to think more delays and cancellations will occur.
