Mussoorie: 11 July:

A meeting between the members of the Mussoorie Traders’ Association and the Administration was held at the Nagar Palika compound this afternoon to discuss banning of plastic carry bags totally from the hill station and thus save the environment.
SDM, Musoorie, G.C. Gunwant presided over the meeting along with the special invitee MLA, Mussoorie, Jot Singh Gunsola.
Highlighting the importance of banning plastic bags, the SDM explained that the new order under the “Recycled plastics manufacture and usage rules, 1999” had been passed by the District Magistrate recently. The law has provision of imprisonment and hefty fine in case of non-compliance.

He said that to save Mussoorie from environmental degradation, this step was necessary. Proactive measures like awareness and enforcing the rules religiously were required by the society and the administration, jointly. He expressed the hope that traders would provide their complete co-operation on the issue.
