for those that don't know, a game of 'conkers' involves two people with horse chestnuts on strings (as above) smashing at each other's conker in turns until one of them drops off. it's simple, unsophisticated, and a lot of fun.
I'm gonna get a bunch of people together and have my own tournament I reckon. It will be fairly purist, in that there will be no vinegaring, varnishing or baking of the conkers; they will simply be dried and strung and doled out at random.
The tournament itself will be fairly unpurist, in that there will be a lot of beer. :o)

The conkers seem to be doing ok in West London. I collected mine within short walk of my house, though I have noticed more blemishes on them that I've seen in the past.
