Lawsuits against the government always seem to be more hoopla and show than substance, but if it gets more love for the polar bears go for it.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Three conservation groups are suing the Department of the Interior for failing to meet a deadline on a decision to list polar bears as threatened because of the loss of Arctic sea ice.

The Center for Biological Diversity, the Natural Resources Defense Council and Greenpeace sued Monday in federal court in San Francisco. The groups say sea ice loss due to global warming is worsening.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposed listing the animals as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. A decision was due on Jan. 9, but two months later, there's still no final word.

Young polar bear playing in the water, trying to pull an older one into the game as well. They are by no means slow or clumsy.

Polar Bear exhibit at the Rio Grande Zoo, Albuquerque, NM. This bear kept pacing back and forth which gave me the chance to take about 100 shots of him with different expressions. He seemed like he wanted to get out and stretch his legs. The two other bears seemed more relaxed and were just sunning themselves.

This was a rather entertaining polar bear at the San Diego Zoo. Moments later she took herself out of the spotlight so I feel appreciative that I was able to get a decent photo of her.

This is Wilhelm from the North Carolina Zoo, Rocky Coast Habitat. He has been off exhibit for the past 5 months, due to pool upgrades and a shade structure being constructed in the adjacent Sea Lion Habitat. This was his first week back on exhibit and he was loving the beautiful weather. He was confiscated from a Mexican Circus along with 7 other Polar Bears, he has been at the NC Zoo for about 6 years now. He has made a huge improvment since comming to the zoo.

This bear is at the Wilhelma Zoo in Stuttgart, Germany, behind a glass wall. I think the dark background with stars suits him better.

I arrived at the Detroit Zoo just in time for the polar bear's feeding. It was a cold winter day and the bears were quite active.
