As voting day nears things are heating up.  Not surprisingly the local green community is lining up behind Gregor Robertson.

(Victoria, BC) The Conservation Voters of BC (CVBC) announced its municipal election endorsements today. CVBC has chosen to endorse only within three selected municipalities: Victoria, Vancouver and Saanich. We have selected 2 mayoral candidates and  11  city council candidates.

Meanwhile there is ongoing controversy about the power of what Charlie Smith calls the NDP mafia.  I also hear chatter about a right wing smear campaign targeting Robertson.  We'll have to see if these desperate last minute efforts can derail what appears to be a Robertson victory.  It didn't work with Obama but we'll have to see if it plays in Vancouver.

Gregor Robertson is a former organic farmer and co-founder of Happy Planet, one of B.C.’s most beloved organic food companies, is a unique, new-style political leader. Coming from the land of earth and vegetables, rather than the school of political spin, makes him an enormously appealing potential candidate in the minds of many who are yearning for something fresh and authentic.

I am not surprised at this either, however I am glad there is such a strong candidate out there who is such an advocate for the environment. It is an important issue and one that does not warrant being left out.
