Iceland's Katla volcano may erupt soon, according to scientists.

Scientists have been keeping a close eye on the volcano as of late.

A BBC report quotes a scientist who notes that there has been "a great deal of seismic activity" in the area around Katla, suggesting that a major eruption could happen sometime in December 2011.

A possible Katla volcano eruption could have a massive impact on the area. If Katla erupts, it could trigger massive floods.

The last major eruption took place in 1918 sending causing a huge glacier meltdown.

For updates on the seismic activity in Iceland, visit the Iceland Met Office website.
