D.A.M.I.R's project mets the UN

What do we know about the UN and what does it do? We were asked by our teacher to write a paper about "International Relations" for my class assignment. So I wrote about the UN since I got a chance to travel to the UN and see it for myself. And I wanted to write about what they do and their beginnings. This is just to give you information and to share what I learnt. I'm not an expert on the UN but it did catch my attention. Posting my final paper on here would probably bore you. So this is just a summary.

The United Nations (UN) is a global and international group that strives to help support co-operation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress and human rights issues. The UN was founded in 1945, prior to the UN we had "The League of Nations", whose goal was to help stop wars between countries and to give us a place to talk about issues and problems to work things out.

According to the official site: 192 Member States joined the United Nations to date.

How many countries are there in the world? There are 195 official countries of the world. Who is missing?

The UN is part of the summit of the Group of Eight (G8) with industrialised nations and will be doing a meeting on July 7 to the 9th 2008 on the island of Toyako in Hokkaido, Japan. Just an FYI - They will talk about the world economy - the increasing price of oil, the environment - and climate change, and political challenges such as nuclear arms. Also on the agenda they will talk about the development of Africa.
