The job does seem like the best job in the world, only condition is that one should be comfortable with water and it seems that this is not holding back very many people.

I would love to get this job and am waiting for this website to go back up before applying. Nature is calling where are YOU!!

SYDNEY (Reuters Life!) - The chance to be the caretaker of a tiny tropical island in Australia has sparked so much interest around the world that a rush of applications crashed the website advertising the post.

The job, which offers a salary of $105,000 to spend six months on the Great Barrier Reef island of Hamilton, has been inundated with hundreds of thousands of prospective candidates.

An official from the state of Queensland, which is offering the position, said the job was created as an antidote to the global economic slump and was being advertised in 18 countries including the United States and China.

Local media said technicians had to restore the website (www.islandreefjob.com) after it could not cope with the volume of interest and crashed for several hours. Some sections are still not up and running.

I'm not for a moment surprised... even if the job was dreadful, $105k for 6 months is excellent.

("Oh, did we mention that the the island is beset by aggressive, poisonous snakes? Why did you think we suddenly needed a caretaker?")

Snorkeling and diving in the Great Barrier Reef was one of the most wonderful experiences in my life. This picture was taken while walking around Green Island and I did not want to leave. Can you say paradise? This would DEFINITELY be a dream job! http://www.flickr.com/photos/kpkpmk/

Heart Reef is a natural formed coral reef situated in the Great Barrier Reef Queensland Australia. It is the most breathtaking view whether you are above the reef in a helicopter or swimming in the reef. As the photographer, I was first flown out to sea, to this reef and dropped off to swim inside these enclosed aquariums! The sealife and coral is stunning, almost surreal. Working in this area for 6 months is fantastic and you will not want to leave!
