There is no institution as powerful as media in the world in shocking the guilt when exposed and popularizing with good deed to societies. Of all, dictator governments fear media most especially when the media is independent and investigative. Because of this, most dictator governments make local media pressure group popularizing only the good parts of that government.
Not only do dictator governments hate electronic, press and internet media but also don’t like the improvement of communication system such as telephone. They also don’t like to liberalize media. Because of this, dictator governments retard the social, cultural, political and economic development of their country. But what role should independent media play when this happens?
In my opinion, independent media should expose such governments who retard the development of media and communication in those countries victim from freedom of information. They should boldly fight for freedom of information wherever the country and position themselves as international rights defender.
