Disney's film 'Earth' opens April 22: see it and plant a tree

Disneynature, a department of the Disney empire, is releasing their first movie 'Earth' on Earth Day, April 22nd and they are hoping to encourage as many people to go and see it as possible, by pledging to plant a tree for every ticket sold on opening weekend.

“EARTH is a spectacular film from the world’s most acclaimed nature filmmakers, and we couldn’t think of a better way to launch the new Disneynature banner, and to celebrate the spirit of the film and Earth Day at the same time,” said Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “The film gives moviegoers an entertaining and unprecedented view of our planet, with some of the most astonishing imagery and exciting natural drama ever presented on the big screen.”

Disney plans to plant those trees in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest and they will also follow through and care for them so that the project is worthwhile.

The film is narrated by James Earl Jones and it follow three different families, elephants, polar bears and whales, as they try to survive in the wilderness home.

What are the logistics of the tree planting? How will this be verified??? Great idea...IF!!!! It's not YAGE (Yet Another Greenwashing Effort)!

I think it is fantastic that Disney is planting trees -- that is the least that they could do. I'm wondering if this movie will do anything to raise environmental awareness and have read that people leave feeling inspired by the beauty of the film to think about the future of the planet. I created a debate page called Earth The Movie ~~ DisneyNature Films CAN Help Save Planet Earth. What do you think? Can DisneyNature, through the creation of films like Earth, help save our planet?

I am sorry to spoil the mood here, but it is a feel good action with out impact nor long or short term change to the problems at hand. 40 years to late and way to little. How much energy is Disney wasting and how much garbage is generated due to packaging and toxic products used and wasted daily by the Disney co.

They are worth then Mc Donald's.
