Dolphin rescues stranded NZ whales
This is a whale of a story! and it's all over the news. Observers were amazed to see that a dolphin could communicate with a whale! Most humans have lost contact with nature –the wonder, the 'every-day' miracles of life! We've come to think we're the only species that can communicate across species - with our pets. But, then, we don't even think of ourselves as a 'species', per sé. We're "made in the image and likeness of God".

A dolphin has guided two stranded whales to safety after human attempts to keep the animals off a New Zealand beach failed, a conservation official said.
"I've never heard of anything like this before, it was amazing," Conservation Department officer Malcolm Smith said.
The actions of the dolphin, known for playing with people in the water at Mahia Beach on the east coast of the North Island, probably meant the difference between life and death for the whales, he said.
Mr Smith had been working for over an hour-and-a-half to save the two pygmy sperm whales, which had repeatedly become stranded despite his attempts to push them back out to sea.
A dolphin, named Moko by locals, appeared and guided the whales to safety after apparently communicating with them, he said.
The whales, a three-metre female and her 1.5-metre male calf, were apparently confused by a sandbar just off the beach and could not find their way back to open water.Source: abc.net.au
"Over the next hour and a half I pushed them back out to sea two or three times and they were very reluctant to move offshore," he said.
"I was starting to get cold and wet and they were becoming tired. I was reaching the stage where I was thinking it's about time to give up here, I've done as much as I can."
In that situation, whales are often humanely killed to end their suffering.

Moko to the rescue
Mr Smith said Moko arrived on the scene and he could hear the whales and the dolphin making noises, apparently to one another.
"The whales made contact with the dolphin and she basically escorted them about 200 metres parallel with the beach to the edge of the sandbar," he said.
"Then she did a right-angle turn through quite a narrow channel and escorted them out to sea and we haven't seen those whales since.
"What the communication was I do not know, and I was not aware dolphins could communicate with pygmy sperm whales, but something happened that allowed Moko to guide those two whales to safety."
Soon after, Moko was seen playing with swimmers on Mahia Beach, one of her favourite activities since she took up residence at the beach nearly a year ago.Source: abc.net.au

An amazing story Maireid, I wonder how dolphins do actually communicate with whales?
Well, good question, sremmah3,
I think sounds carry psychic telepathic meanings that are intrensic to the sound wave. e.g. Sanskrit, the oldest language in existence, and derived from earlier esoteric Vedic forms, is the root language for most Indo-European languages - including Irish /Gaelic. The original meaning of the sounds are intact. On an interesting aside, they say that because Irish has been dormant for so long, it hasn't been altered, therefore the original power of the old language is somewhat intact. (I only speak elementary Irish /Gaelic)
My insight is that we humans ignore our highest form of psychic communications skills. We have then, but we use the 'social forms' and don't notice the 'higher' signals we send out. I feel it in my frontal lobes –and in my kidneys. lol
I've done a bit of study on Alpha brain waves - as compared with Beta. I think the brain functions as a transmitter and a receiver in that the thought we project 'hooks' onto the corresponding 'answer'. :)
Fun! eh?
Maireid Sullivan. Thank you! It's a lovely story, and fits the holiday perfectly!
Thanks, Cynthia!
Happy Holidays!
Maireid Sullivan, I like this story. It's good stuff.
I luv your story.
Hi Ikabana, thanks!
I like your name too - is it related to the Japanese tradition of Ikibana? - flower arrangements, based on consciously shaping the space between each flower. I see this also applies to composing musical arrangements. ... in that the space between the sounds or words is as important as the sounds themselves.
Hello Maireid, yes, flower arrangements means IKEBANA. did you study Japanese? Konichiwa :)
Good Morning, –Konichiwa, Ikabana.
I was a student of Asian history during the 80s. Then, in 1991, I discovered ancient Celtic heritage! Which incorporates my own Irish heritage. I remain enthralled and in awe of the parallel wisdom and high sensibility of ancient cultures. I'm particularly inspired by the imalgamation of ancient Chinese and Japanese cultures. I read Zen for many years. Alan Watts was my first teacher.
Maireid Sullivan, I have just read all your stories again, and found them all great. Thanks for your great works. Clan.
