so sad

This story is heartbreaking. Why is nobody bringing in ice breakers? If Ice breakers are not available my sister was telling me about a documentary of an island that would get iced in and they put a tractor on a barge and broke the ice that way. I'm not sure what a barge is but it maybe an idea.

They are saying on news reports that the worry about icebreakers actually harming the dolphins. Because they are so big they usually break the ice into huge chunks and they are worried that the dolphins would be harmed. However getting a barge and breaking the ice that way would be a thought... They could atleast make the area they are in larger until the weather lets up...

Forgo an ice breaker, send helocopters that can tolerate cold air flight, lower rescue teams, basket-hoist the dolphins and transport them to open waters.  Flight equipment would likely need to come from private industry, for Governments don't value animal preservation.

Thank you, April, for posting this!  Unfortunately the web is now giving conflicting stories of their fate.  I will post something as soon as it's been confirmed.

I think it is heart breaking that regular citizens had to take matters into their own hands to help the poor dolphins.  It doesn't surprise me at all! I think it is wonderful that the people stepped up, and helped the dolphins.  They should get some sort of humanatarian (spelling?) award!!  I  couldn't have standed to sit , and watch!  God bless those men that helped!!  Its sad to know that 2 of the dolphins might not have made it.  Typical government!!!

The townsfolk who saved three of these dolphins at Seal Cove are heroes.

Canadian Fisheries is the same branch of Govt. that oversees the killing of baby seals.

Pretty obvious who  the good guys are.

Seals are food for people, it is the same as killing a cow for steak but I am glad that these dolphins were saved :P the townspeople who helped are incredibly selfless instead of just watching. Bravo
