Earthquake Los Angeles: Small Quake Hits Santa Monica
Small Earthquake Shakes Hermosa Beach Area
A small earthquake woke up residents of Santa Monica and the Hermosa Beach areas near Los Angeles.
A Santa Monica police spokesman says he felt a "very brief and mild jolt," but had not received any calls from the public.
The 3.18 magnitude earthquake hit at 2.17 am PST in the ocean front communities east of Los Angeles according to the U.S. geological survey which measures and tracks earthquakes.
"The 2:17 a.m. temblor centered about 3 miles west of Hermosa Beach was widely felt across the South Bay and West Los Angeles, but earthquakes in the magnitude-3 range rarely cause structural damage."
