Easter Penguin to be Named for Kate Middleton (or Prince William)
A Humboldt Penguin Named Kate Middleton/Prince William (Delete as Appropriate)
A Humboldt penguin, born on Easter Sunday and rejected by its mother, will be named after either Kate Middleton or Prince William, depending on its gender.
The London Zoo staff aren't sure if the tiny penguin chick is a chick or a dude. Right now, they're just calling it Egg, as in "new Twitter user with no pic", I guess. Egg is being hand-reared, and kept warm in a Union Jack flag. While fashion sites fuss over how Kate Middleton will wear her hair, the London Zoo staff has to wait until they can find out which restroom Egg will use.
Egg was rejected before he/she even hatched. Pardon the pun, but that's... cold.
Penguins are one of few animals in the wild which mate for life, so when Egg grows up he could find his own penguin prince, or princess.
It's also worth pointing out, though, that pengins also "divorce", as partners split up due to unusually stressful events, such as the death of their chicks.
Egg/Kate/William will grow up in a tough neighborhood.
