We found these everywhere on this trip hiding under logs. This is a very common species. In fact a variation of the Eastern Newt can be found in East Texas.

Fast Fact: Newts are brightly colored Salamanders found in moist, wooded areas in North America, Europe and Asia. Typically, newts have smooth, slimy skin and salamanders have dry warty skin, but as with frogs and toads, there are always exceptions.
