Eggborough is owned by British Energy and started generating power in 1967. This station is one of three large coal-fired plants near the M62 in West Yorkshire, and ranking among the ten largest coal-fired power stations in the UK, . Together with the nearby Ferrybridge and Drax power stations, the group is both a major source of baseload electricity for the UK national grid and a large contributor to the nation's greenhouse gas emissions. According to its owner, British Energy, Eggborough generates power sufficient for about 2 million homes. Two of the four generating units at the station have been fitted with flue gas desulpherisation equipment to help reduce pollutants which lead to acid rain and smog. www.british-energy.com/documents/Apprenticeship_Scheme_Eg...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flue_gas_desulfurization The geo-mapping data is incorrect - because of high train speeds, my camera used cached location data. Eggborough is about 16 miles SSW from York near the M62 motorway. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eggborough_Power_Station Thanks to Simon Hodgson for pointing out the correct name of this power station - I originally tagged this as Ferrybridge, one of three large coal-fired power stations in the area.
