The Endangered Snow Leopard and Threat to Other Species

thank you mchawk for the flag and for your question. there are so many fronts that the country has to deal with: illiteracy, overpopulation, poverty and conflicts above all. so i guess conservation has neither been fully understood as essential nor enough funds are allocated for it.

Thank you so very much for choosing my image as part of this story. It's really sad to think that such a majestic creature in the cat world is so Endangered. I hope that people can support this cause and help keep the Snow Leopard free from extinction.

amy, groovalmagery, patgarcia, mayhem, thank you for stopping by and for your comments. the snow leopard is truly a magnificent animal. i have not had the good fortune to see it in real life but while working on a 5 metre tall tapestry about endangered flora and fauna of pakistan - many years ago for the karachi IUCN office - i got deeply involved in the subject and the magnificence of the snow leopard took my breath away!

I've always been fascinated by Snow Leopards, they are beautiful creatures. Unfortunately, like most people, I've only ever seen them in captivity - however nowadays - this is where most of us will see endangered creatures.

unfortunately in this day and age a Playstation and other material objects hold a much higher value in our society , than the real things of value . Its a shame that as a whole the modern world is turning its back on Mother Nature for Technology Greed and  Selfishness we are distancing ourseleves with the planet and all that inhabit it . The Snow leopard is another prime example of a world that doesn't care we have the ability to intervene and do so much good , but that is not as important as paying millions for a sports starts or trying to break the world speed records We "Mankind" have imposed our greed and constant tinkering on nature for to long now and when it needs our help we turn our back and smile at the mess we have made , just because its all covered up by Electronical Eye Candy. The Snow Leopard pictured is a fine cat and lays down in a Zoo for us to look in awe at its beauty , but to most its just something to look at for a second and say oh that's nice ..Thats why I love to take pictures because when I saw this Leopard I wanted to be able to see it again and again ... Thank you for inviting me to add this photo it was taken at the wildlife heritage fund breeding centre in kent (UK). A place which does great work with lots of big cat species but the snow leopards are particularly amazing, it would be a tradgedy if they were to disappear for the want mainly of being left alone.

The snow leopard pictured in this photo lives with a mate in the Feline/Primate Building at the Potter Park Zoo in Lansing, Michigan. The exhibit is also home to African lions and a pair of Siberian tigers. Zoos like this are a great place for people to connect with animals.

Thanks for getting the snow peopard's plight out there.  Our snow leopards have had cubs and those cubs will go off to other zoos to breed with others that are not related to them.  This way the population in captivity can grown and be healthy - since there will likely come a day when wild snow leopards are impossible to find, as with most of the other cats, unfortunately.

Snow leopards are simply beautiful animals.  We need to find a way to make sure they are no longer endangered.

This image of the Snow Leopard was taken on a recent visit to a the Wildlife Heritage Foundation, The WHF are successfully running breeding programs for the Snow Leopards and other endangered BIG cats.

This was a beautiful animal that I saw in a reservation devoted to breading cats and releasing them to the wild. The snow leapord was the most popular of the cats at this project and i did so enjoy seeing it there. But I cant help thinking that I would be much more pleased if these animals were in their home environment and that I had only heard of them rather than see them first hand here.

This shot was taken at the Wildlife Heritage Trust, near Maidstone in Kent. They have a pair of Snow Leopards, which are the most outstanding cats at the sanctuary.
