Updated 02:34 p.m., January 15, 2009As cleanup continues at the site of the TVA coal ash spill near Harriman, environmental advocates want to know what's going to happen to the billion-plus gallons of slurry.
Earthjustice and the Environmental Integrity Project, two national advocacy groups for stricter environmental regulation, released a report today that condemns mine-filling, the practice of using dried-up coal mines as landfills for coal ash. The report claims the method has poisoned groundwater around the country.
