Europe's largest onshore wind farm open and ready to expand
Scotland is moving in a big way to produce electrical energy from renewable sources. The North Sea oil fields are decreasing in production and new sources of energy are being looked at. Wind farms promise to produce clean, renewable energy for the country.
Europe's largest onshore wind farm, which is already powerful enough to meet Glasgow's electricity needs, is to expand by more than a third as part of a major green energy initiative by Scottish ministers.
The first minister Alex Salmond announced that the 322MW Whitelee wind farm south of Glasgow had been given permission to increase its capacity to 452MW, as he officially switched on the wind farm this morning.
Another scheme to put 150 wind turbines on Shetland has raised some opposition with Islanders arguing against the very large project.

Good for my ancestral homeland to be doing this.
We didn't have the good sense to follow T. Boone Pickens' plan, even thought it would have worked, reducing carbon emissions, important or not, but, more importantly, reducing our dependence on fossil fuel and retaining 700 billion dollars that would otherwise go to another country.
