Fargo's Red River level is predicted to be 36 feet by Thursday, meaning that the level will fall to a relatively safe height and residents are hoping that the threat of flooding will be over.
It is currently at just above 38 feet and the National Weather Service is saying that it will continue to fall at about one foot a day.
The area has been on high flood alert for days now, but the cold weather could still cause havoc on any water trying to enter the Red River.
The river is expected to rise again and have a second crest in mid-April.
