Fire crews battle Florida brush fire

Fire crews in Florida are trying to control a brush fire that has broken out in Northwest Miami-Dade.

The fire is burning near the Metro West Detention Center and the South Florida Reception Center at Northwest 137th Avenue and Northwest 17th Street. The flames, which are about 400 feet from the road, are burning dangerously close to nearby power lines and both of the jails. However, neither the county detention center nor the state facility has been ordered to evacuate.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopters are performing water drops to try and bring the flames under control. They are using water from a nearby lake to fill up giant bags with water and then dropping the water on the fire.
