The massive flooding that has affected the Midwest is now spilling over into the Mississippi River, and the first lock and dam has already had to close.

The first lock and dam on the upper Mississippi River closed to barge traffic on Thursday due to flood conditions that have destroyed homes and thousands of acres of corn and soybeans, said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Lock and Dam 17 in New Boston, Illinois, closed at 3:53 a.m. EDT).
