Mussoorie: This winter has been unprecedented in more than many ways. The frequent electricity cuts and on top of that spine chilling winds from the Himalayas had made life excruciatingly painful for the resident of Mussoorie and around. The local resident stated  that, sub-zero level temperature and dry chilling winds were  witnessed after several decades this year.
In spite of the freezing temperature the snow had eluded the region. Mussoorie usually receives the first showers of snow  around first week of January, This season was minus snow fall much to the grief of local traders and residents, being a hill station the region depends on tourism. The snow is also very important for the environment especially it replenishes the soil with extra water present in it thereby increasing the yield of Apples and other fruits. However  everyone heaved a sigh of relief as weather God agreed to bring in the fresh snow in the first week of February. The ominous clouds heralded the sign of rain and snow. The first shower of snow was greeted by local and tourist who flock every year from the plains of Delhi and adjoining areas.(For them snow  being a novelty)with people coming out  of their houses for the glance of first snow. However environmentalists are worried with the less snow in the region and blame  it  on  global warming and climatic change in  the world due to increased pollution levels. They added less snow also means less water and much hotter summer this year which is really an alarming thought.
