Nowadays, Samarinda peoples are dealing with a massive risk of flood..

Since a decade ago, peoples in Northern Samarinda have to be alert about the flood that can suddenly came and force them to move out..

Just like what's happenning on this November, where peoples who live at Mayjend Sutoyo street may "enjoy" flood with surface's height equal to our knee..

Not only came as a disaster, this annual flood hereby become a new amusement feature.. And eventually can be called "Flood Water Park"..

This flood is an effect from rapid movement of open coal mining nearby, so the authorities will hold an intensive hearing dan focus discussion for evaluating the latest policy of government, especially "Dinas Pertambangan" (Body of Mining Legality) that can give permission upon coal mining..

Recent update..

After 1 week, the flood level increase significantly since the 3rd day, because the high tide of Mahakam River and Karang Mumus River (moon phase).. Lot of new places (places that not in flood before), also being stagnated in flood..

Including public school, and hospital..

Meanwhile, peoples whose house stagnate in flood find difficulties to get food.. While the others begin to get suffer from skin disease..

Very interesting to hear that people are taking steps to "enjoy" the annual flood.

This is crazy - at least the people don't see it as a disaster anymore though

actually this kind of behavior happened since 2 or 3 years ago..

and that's why i titled it with "paradox"..

in fact, i was enjoying my time when i took the pictures.. ^^

when water splashed on me, when kids shouted requesting to be photographed by me, and so on..

If you cannot do against and it's not tragical, I think it's the best you can do is trying to enjoy whatever happens around you.

Actually it's tragical.. 31.480 peoples have to move out from their house.. Or maybe they just move their life in the 2nd story of their house..

A senior's care house also dealing with this flood.. It's quite hard to see the old peoples have to struggle againts flood.. Can't sleep well, cold at night, schools are closed, stores can do their job, etc..

But i think because peoples may think the other side of it, so they can be as happy as what we saw.. ^^
