State lawmakers gave initial approval Tuesday to a bill that could allow offshore drillers a chance to set up rigs within sight of Florida's Gulf of Mexico beaches. A surprise introduction of legislation by Dean Cannon, R- Winter Park, slated to be House leader next year, calls for lifting the state's decades-old ban on rigs and giving the governor and Cabinet authority over proposals for drilling between 3 to 10 miles from shore.
Everyone must keep in mind that Cuba (and China) might be drilling offshore too, on the Florida side of their coast.

Gee, next we might get actual windmills in the waters off the coast of Martha's Vinyard, even though the Kennedys, particularly Robert Jr, might have to look at them. He objected to them a while back and stopped the campaign.
The ecology radicals have stopped similar projects off the coast of Oregon as well.
Take your pick, progressives. It can only be one or the other.
