Fossilized Wood - 260 Million Years old

No, this is not real wood. This is a close-up of a large tree trunk in the "Petrified Forest" in Damaraland. Millions of years ago, a flood washed large tree trunks into this area. The trunks were quickly covered with sediments and over the course of time fossilized. Erosion later brought them to the surface again. The trunks are preserved so well that you can distinguish bark from wood. The colour of the stone is brownish and therefore looks very much like real wood. An unbelievable piece of natural wonder...
