Four giant panda cubs have been born late Saturday within 14 hours in China's Breeding Research Centre, including female twins.

The giant panda is one of the world's most endangered species, because of the destruction of its forest habitat and lack of contact between isolated populations.

According to experts only about 1,600 pandas remain in the wild, mostly in Sichuan and neighbouring Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.

Another 180 pandas are being raised in captivity in China.

I was a bit skeptic waking up in 5:30 in the morning at my Chengdu guesthouse in order to get to the Panda research center just outside of town in order to see the bears feeding.

The truth is that even if my expectations were high, the visit would have been awarded as a success. The animals are capturing, the center is weel organized, and the museum is quite interesting.

During my recent July 4th visit to the National Zoo I enjoyed my special time with Tai Shan. He is the first Panda to be born at the National Zoo and survive. He turned 3 on July 9 and his birthday was celebrated by many of his adoring fans.

My trip to the National Zoo was not by accident I planed to spend my vacation with this wonderful animal and his parents Mei and Tian. Being in the presence of Pandas brings a great peace to the spirit. You know you are in the presence of greatness when you see them.

America is blessed to have Pandas in 4 city's, San Diego, Memphis Washington and Atlanta. If you have the opportunity to see these wonderful animals you should take it, and stand in the presence of something wonderful.

This photo was taken on a recent field trip with my oldest son, Brad. Being our first trip to the National Zoo, I wasn't aware that they had a Panda exhibit, so this was a nice surprise. As Tai Shan made his "rounds," I snapped this photo when he was coming down a small hill.

One thing that struck me was Tai Shan's "personality," he definitely had one.

I have been lucky enough to see every Panda in North America.  Panda's are at four zoos in North America -- National Zoo in DC, San Diego Zoo, Zoo Atlanta, and the Memphis Zoo.

They are simply beautiful animals.

I am very impressed with the breeding result of Pandas at the China's Breeding Research Centre. I am a breeder of St Vincent parrots, may be when time is right we can work together.
