Sri Lanka - The island government has declared December 26 as the National Safety Day, dedicated to remembering all those who lost their lives in natural disasters, especially the Tsunami of December 2004 and to create awareness among the general public about disasters and their mitigation.

As part of the event marking this day, staff of all Government institutions as well as others observed two minutes silence today from 9.25 am- 9.27 am in remembrance of the disaster victims.
