In this photo, you can see the northern end of the ridge, comprised of Mt. Lafayette to the north (left) and Mt. Lincoln to the south (right).
Franconia Notch is a major mountain pass through the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Until 2003, it was dominated by the Old Man of the Mountain, a rock formation whose profile had become a symbol of the state of New Hampshire. The notch is traversed by the Franconia Notch Parkway (I-93/Rt. 3).
The drive north on I-93 is one of my favorites and is certainly one of the most spectacular routes in the Northeast.
