Freak storm in Kuwait

Reading about tornadoes and typhoons happening in the US were always a mystery for people in the middle east. Until Friday evening when a freak storm ripped apart roof toops, car shades, water tanks and knocked down electric poles.
The strange part was that the wind speed was a mere 50Kms and it all happened in a matter of 10 minutes without any warnings from the meteorlogical dept.
It is clear sign that the weather pattern is changing globally. Last year we saw cyclone create havoc and destruction in OMAN , heavy downpoir in UAE and now a freak storm in KUWAIT.
Some intersting photos for review.

menon69, I like this story. It's good stuff. Exactly where did this happen in Kuwait? Have they yet identified what happened? Sounds like you might have had a microburst. Thanks for the good photos!

Hey PEP. Most of Kuwait city experienced the storm and all of us are still talking about it, except for the weather dept. Thery are still trying to figure out what happened.
Thanks for flagging this anyway. Probably other readers from Kuwait may have a thing or two to say about this.

Hi, thanks for the additional info.
Here in Tornado Alley in the U.S. we often have storms that roil up quickly, as you described. Except that over here, the weather forecasters are great about predicting and tracking storms, and that makes all the difference.
I hope you didn't have any damage at your home or office.

Luckily nothing serious to mention here, except that I found my car shifted a few metres away from where I parked.

Apparently one person was killed in this freak storm. Blogger Amira Al Hussainihas collected several resources about it.
A suggestion: that fish-eye photo of the storm is awesome. If you use the "moderate" tab you could move it to the top by selecting it as the default. I hope people are taking time to go through the photos and find that one. Good job!

If the winds were only 50km per hour, does this indicate poor building standards for thos buildings that were damaged?
