THE GARDEN

Having a one acre building lot on which no house could be built at this time due to the sub-prime mortgage fiasco, I decided to clear and plant a veggie garden. After the soil was tested we decided we could make it grow beans, peas, sweet corn, tomatoes and other food stuffs.

With the help of a son-inlaw who has land clearing machines and lives across the road from this tract we planted "THE GARDEN".....I own farm equipment and have some knowledge of farming . :)

At the present time Diesel Fuel cost $4.90 to$5.00 per gallon and rising. This cost is directly related to the price of food in your grocery store, so this seemed like a good idea ....and it has been. ...I recently had to purchase another deep freezer to store the produce. I have two daughters who live in this area and are also enjoying the harvest.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT :
As I am posting this series of photos I am observing TV images of the flooding in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, Iowa. These scenes make me sad because I have direct connections to this region of our country.
I talked to my brother who lives near Cedar Rapids this morning and he informed me that there are thousands of acres of corn and soybean bean farm land that is under water and most likely will not be replanted because it will take three to four weeks for the ground to dry out and coupled with the high cost of fuel will make replanting prohibitive. Due to the extreme weather conditions all across the Mid- West and the bread basket of America, our country is in deep do do!
Tragic weather conditions are a natural event over which we have no control but there is another factor involved here which will drive the cost of food and almost everything to the extreme in the next few months. This factor is :

What few Americans realize is that in 1992 the US. Congress deregulated the Chicago Merchantile and The Chicago Board of Trade ( The Futures Tradeing Mkt.). Out of this action came mergers and an almost total revamping of the American financial structure.
From mergers, buyouts and SELLOUTS....came a new Futures Mkt..
called Globex.
Globex, an almost unregulated futures market in commodities trades in oil among other things. There was a time when futures were bought and sold only from the floor of the exchange but not anymore.Today they also can be traded world wide electronically(computers).
With out trying to explain the Futures Market (which I doubt I could do)
let me give you an example:

The Shiek of Abugottacha, whose principality is on the Persian Gulf, sits at his computer and buys oil Futures from Globex.
Lets say oil is going for $130.00 a barrel but being a gambler he bids oil in one year at $180.00 a barrel, the impact on the present price of oil is immediate. He may never have to take delivery on the order by trading paper....and even if he should, it's his oil anyway !
