Giant sinkhole in Texas continues to grow!
A massive sinkhole, 600 yards wide & 200 feet deep, is continuing to grow in Daisetta, Texas. The giant hole has already swallowed up oil equipment and a tractor-trailer rig.
The bigger than life sinkhole in southeast Texas continues to grow.
The sinkhole, which has grown to about six football fields in diameter, is located in rural Liberty County in the city of Daisetta.
This huge hole started yesterday morning as just a crack in the road.
The nearest home to the sinkhole is about a quarter-mile to a half-mile away.
"It has grown in size," said Hugh Bishop of Liberty County Sheriff's office. "We are estimating 600 yards in diameter and anywhere from 150 to 200 feet deep."
"We are just mainly watching as the hole grows in size," adds Bishop. "Which direction it is going to be headed... if it does start growing toward the road or towards the horses we will evacuate those people. "
Daisetta was built on salt domes and some believe the oil taken from the wells caused the land to cave in.
Daisetta is located about 50-miles northeast of Houston.
