Fishermen and women in Orange County have seen an influx of giant squids in the waters off Newport Beach, California. Anglers in the area have seen squids up to 60 pounds and 4 feet long since the first were caught on the afternoon of Thursday, January 27.

Robert Woodbury, manager at Newport Landing Sportfishing, said anglers who signed up to fish on one of the company’s evening excursions had caught about 400 squid since Friday night.

The influx of squid is being attributed to a food source in the area as the typically reclusive creatures are known to follow sources of food like anchovies. Local fishermen and women have no intentions of putting a stop the their angling until the giant squid flee. Fisherfolk in the area are excited about the squid as most fish off Newport Beach don't put up much of a fight where as the squid have an Energizer Bunny mentality and 'just keep going', even after getting hooked and tossed.
