Glinwell's Nurseries Fire, Hatfield Rd, St. Albans

At around 12.20pm on Sunday 11th November 2012, a fire broke out at Glinwell's Nurseries in Hatfield Road, Smallford. The Glinwell premises there are its distribution centre for their fruit & vegetable wholesale business.

Bystanders have commented that thousands of wooden pallets and plastic containers are stored at the site. By 12.40pm a thick black plume of smoke had risen hundreds of feet in the air, partially blotting out the sun.

Emergency services were already at the scene.

About the same time on the same evening another fire broke out just 7 miles away at Potters Crouch Recycling Plant, Hertfordshire.
