The sun shines from the west as it sets and is reflected on the rocks above. Note the steep banks and stumps in the foreground. Shasta Lake is 70 feet lower than its typical shoreline. All the water (mostly from Mt Shasta snowmelt and runoff) is being drawn off for irrigation to the south.
