Ginger Gives Birth: New Monkey in Vancouver

Ginger, a five-year-old Goeldi's monkey (well, technically a Goeldi's marmoset) has given birth to a healthy baby monkey (we dont' yet know the gender of the child). The Vancouver Aquarium*, which Ginger calls home, really needed some good news after Milo the Sea Otter was diagnosed with cancer.

Ginger and Fred (her baby-daddy) now have a family of five. The as-yet-unnamed baby monkey joins siblings Diego and Hugo.

Goeldi's maromsets, native to South America, are a threatened species. They have the capacity to give birth to a single child twice a year; Hugo was born in April.

(*Yup, monkeys live at aquariums. I mean, why not?)
