Governor declares weather emergency in Kentucky
The Governor of Kentucky has declared a weather state of emergency in the state, as a winter storm is expected to cause even more havoc throughout the region.
This announcement allows for state resources to help cities and counties cope with such emergencies as power outages and damage caused by ice and more snow.
Governor Steve Beshear has said that they will use whatever resources they can to get through this. Most people in the state are now in shelters for the night.
Transportation Secretary Joe Prather said the state's challenge is to deal more with ice than snow. "We're expecting a rough time tonight and tomorrow," he said.
Chris Berman, senior vice president for E.ON U.S., Kentucky Utilites and LG&E, said about 52,000 Kentuckians are without power, mostly in Western Kentucky.
Outage reports mostly have come from west of Interstate 65 and south of I-64, he said.

In Northern Kentucky (near Cincinnati, OH), we received about 5 inches of snow, then about an 3/4 - 1 inch of ice, and then another 5 inches of snow on top of that.
As the sun finally came out on this last day of January, the snow and ice has started to melt. However, there is the threat of new winter weather as the new week begins... Keep your fingers crossed!
