The Huffpo had a piece on the soon to be release film, Food Inc.
The riveting documentary Food, Inc. (opening in select cities tomorrow) presents elements of the food industry that can put profit ahead of food safety, workers' rights, animal welfare, the sustainability of the environment, and the livelihood of the family farmer.

God luck changing any thing. Some have lost their shirt taking them on. I speak out of experience. The movie may help though. I hope.

As a small farmer, I can attest that people are looking at price point before much else. If fresh cut broccoli sold at the farmers' market is sold for the equivalent of $ 1.00 per pound and the supermarket has two week old Mexican at $0.50 most people will buy the two week old. Of course you are voting with your money with everything you buy. If people would remember the old saying -- you are what you eat -- they would be reluctant to put some of those factory products into their mouths or the mouths of their children.

As the price of oil returns to a high, that Mexican food will cost more than locally grown. There are advantages and disadvantages to oil going up.
I do know that some major supermarket chains went out and did deals with local farmers during the last run-up in oil price.
Our economy needs to be guided by the interests of the people, not the corporations.

Thank you, MTippett, for this piece and a preview of the movie about the food industry's secrets, so to speak.
It's unfortunat that small farmers are struggling even though they're producing more nutritious and healthier food.

Thanks for this story and video. I heard a good radio program today.
The Common Sense Coalition This gentlemen said that the Oil "Men" poured information and money like crazy to stop
the farmers from using corn for gasoline. It is all false propaganda. It goes back to
Monsanto and the Oil Magnates controlling us. He said that 3 farmers can link up and make
their own gasoline.! I will research this.
When I was a nutrition counselor we encouraged people to buy basically the outside aisles
of the grocery store. It is the most fresh and least full of chemicals..etc.
