Guana Bay, Sint Maarten (Dutch Side)
Just off-shore, the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea, causing a vortex of currents that batters this beach rarely visited by island tourists. With each wave, rocks are ground together, and over time smoothed into round stones more like one would find in a swift river than on the beach in Caribbean. Atop that is the final resting place for floatsom from both seas -- materials thown or lost overboard from ships and boats, or perhaps swept from shore by the storms in the area. This is not trash from careless beachgoers -- it is the detritus of life at sea.
Looking through it, one can find many interesting things, well worn souvenirs from others' lives. Lost sandals and shoes, torn fishing nets, net-floats, ship-parts and other treasures hide amongst careless trash of eater bottles thrown overboard and the like.
