As H1N1 Vaccinations begin in Canada this morning, I am sure I am not the only person out there who may be slightly skeptical about this mass call for inoculations. Personally, I will not go running out to be the first to get my shots this morning.
I am working on the good old faithful- eat right, drink liquid, take your vitamins and stay away from sick people- sickness prevention plan! We’ll see how it goes…
CBC News provides the full story in this morning’s article,
Swine flu immunization underway, found at
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/10/26/h1n1-vaccine194.html.
What are you feelings on this ‘pandemic’ and this nation wide immunization plan? Should we as a society be worried about the long term physical effects of these and other vaccinations, that are available or have been available in the past?
Maybe, if North Americans weren’t pumped up with the newest antibiotics and drugs ever time there is signs of a sniffle in turn making us resistant to most medicines, we wouldn’t be dealing with this mass plight of sickness…
Think about it.

I don't usually get flu vaccinations. I don't usually get sick, and when I do, a regime of home remedies usually wipes out the virus in a day or two. I rarely use aspirin and only use it now because of my heightened risk of stroke. Little else of medicines do I use, although I take a variety of vitamins and am on thyroid supplements.
Now to this vaccination. I'm getting one as soon as it is available to me, the general public. Not so much because I'm afraid of pandemic, but because I fit into the vulnerable group. I have compromised lung function due to years of inhaling combusted materials. I did not do a lot of damage, but am vulnerable to things like asthma, bronchitis, and pneumonia. I am also in my 40s, the most vulnerable group. Or so I've read. I hear if you do get this flu that it lingers far longer than usual, as well as attacking lungs far more than regular colds and flu. I really cannot afford to be weak and ineffective for a long term. I have a lot of pets in the home that rely on me as well as having work to do. So for me, it's clear that immunization makes sense. Especially when it's free!
I really don't know why so many people are unwilling to be immunized. I have heard people express concerns about side effects and risks but no listing of these. As yet nobody has clearly articulated to me their concerns! Furthermore, I know two women in my social circle who are battling this flu already.
If you decide not to get immunized and you do find yourself under the weather, please stay home. If you are a boss and the employees call in sick, please allow it. Especially if your employee is usually quite responsible!

By all indications this vaccine is relativele safe and no worse than the normal seasonal flu shot.
My concern is this. This flu is already spreading in Canada and it takes two weeks before it protects you after the vaccination.
In my closest town there is only a one day clinic on Nov 6th and duirng working hours.
Are we already behind the curve for protection for this flu?
At least we have a vaccine for everyone who wants it in Canada. In the U.S. they have only 10% availability at this point.
Thanks for this article Jessica. Apparently 60% of Canadians feel the way you do.

According to the local press, and 'officials', better than 20% of the school age children have already had, or currently have the flu. Two woman in the office i work in had it 10 days ago.
No one died, i haven't gotten sick, nor have the others in the office, nor my kids in school.
No one (including those 20%) had used the vaccine.
Are we all gunna die? Nah.
On a personal level, i credit my daily eleventeen cups of coffee for keeping me disease free.

Cheers to that (Hearing the clink of coffee cups in the back ground)! I did hear that hot liquids such as coffee, tea and soup will help to keep the piggie flu away...
