I spent my entire 45 minute lunch Sunday arguing with my friend Tiffany about politics. During this time she brought up Hannity 2 or 3 times.
So I challenged her. She watch 3 episodes of Rachel Maddow, I watch 3 episodes of Hannity and Colmes. We blog about it and see what happens.
Thursday – Day 1 of the Challenge.
I just finished watching Olbermann and Maddow and now with much trepidation, I put on Hannity. To my relief I see the wrinkled flag from the dining hall of the Waldorf where the Alfred E Smith dinner is being held. I just saw the McCain and Obama speeches on MSNBC during Rachel Maddow, so I can ease into the hate box.
But while they are waiting for the speeches, Hannity has former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabe on to rehash last night's debate. Huckabe comments on how he thought McCain should have tried to be more effective in his calling Obama a terrorist sympathizer. This is sad. Not everyone is able to see this for the cheap ploy that it is. Some people actually believe that Obama is a Muslim and/or a terrorist. Many of these people own guns and feel the need to protect our nation from terrorists. This line of attack Hannity and the McCain campaign are pushing is dangerous and could lead to horrible violence. And the thin pretense they hang this on is mere gossamer. Barrack Obama was given his middle name before Sadam Hussein came to power. That does not make him a Muslim, or as the woman at the McCain rally said, an Arab. And William Ayers? I am neither afraid of nor threatened by the guy. Check out his wiki page. With further quick reading I can find the death of one cop who they were investigated for killing and not charged. This followed Chicago Cops killing 4 sleeping Black Panther members. Dick Cheney is far more dangerous and has far more blood on his hands. And McCain has palled around with Cheney. And what about Domestic Terrorist G Gordon Liddy?
The next topic is the abortion issue. They are quibbling on the terms, “The Health of the Mother” Fuckers.
They are now talking about Joe the Plumber, who Hannity has not yet found out is not a plumber, does not make $250K a year, made $40k in 2006 which he has yet to pay the taxes on and has a lien against him over. His boss's business makes $100k a year and is not for sale. So Joe the Plumber is full of shit and Huckabe has him booked for his show already.
Now it is the Tax plans of Obama and McCain and Huckabe is saying that 40% of the people are on welfare and not paying taxes. His number is crazy. The richest people that Dick Cheney claimed to take off the tax rolls in 2004 account for 5-1% of the population. Or less. If it's corporations, most corporations don't pay income tax, so that is well over 40%. Or if he is talking about poor people, things are bad, but we can't be up to 40% of the US population living below the poverty line, can we? And if we are, we need to take drastic action to fix this situation. Quit exporting jobs. Quit sending money to Georgia (Asia) to build infrastructure there, build infrastructure here.
Also Huckabe doesn't believe that McCain pays for his plan by taxing existing health benefits. And why should he? Its an asinine plan. No one in their right mind would come up with such a crazy plan. When confronted repeatedly by Colmes, he defends himself by saying Congress won't allow him to do it. How about we don't allow McCain to enact his crazy plan by voting Obama into office?
Joe the Plumber and Huckabe want the American Public to feel sorry for people who make over $250k. Fuck that.
Is Bush a socialist? No he is a disastrous idiot waiting impatiently for moving day.
Colmes had $10 in his wallet and Hannity took it.
Now over to the Alfred E Smith Dinner.
McCain first. He fired his staff in favor of Joe the Plumber. Clintons... MSNBC... ACORN.
The Republicans are trying hard to ride the ACORN story for all it's worth, but it is not Voter Fraud, by Voter Registration Fraud, perpetrated by unscrupulous unemployable signature gatherers who are paid by the signature and so fill out forms with fictitious names. ACORN is required by law to turn over all forms with all signatures, even Mickey Mouse's signature. It is up to the government to sift through the signatures. Mickey Mouse will not vote.
Hannity and Huckabe are very happy with McCain's performance. They are guessing that Obama will mention Wright, Ayers and ACORN.
Rev Wright with his crazy sermons was saying we Can and Must Do Better.. He just said it in a super provocative way to get people's attention. That is a far better cry than those clergy members on the Right who's sermons say kill all gays. Rev Wright petered out his 15 minutes quite a while ago by pandering to the cameras. Much the same way Joe the Plumber is fizzling out.
Obama now speaking. Bloomberg's 3rd term... Economy... Treasury... AIG... Housing Crisis 8 times harder on McCain... Who is Barrack Obama?... Born on Krypton... Cross-Dressing Mayor from NYC... Barrack Steve Obama... Palling around with the Senate...
Bob Beckel (Mondale '84) and frmr Ohio Congressman John Kasich (R '83-01) replace Huckabe.
Beckle thinks we should have better political discourse.
Kasich found the speeches funny.
