Harper unveils $100M for poor nations fighting climate change
Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced a plan to help developing countries deal with global warming. The $100 million dollar plan was announced yesterday, and would be distributed over the next year to regions including Africa, the South Pacific and the Caribbean.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper closed the Sommet de la Francophonie in Quebec City on Sunday by announcing $100 million in aid for developing countries to fight climate change.
Harper said his government has always been committed to finding a solution to global warming and understands that some poorer countries don't have enough resources to do the same.
"That's why I'm announcing that the government of Canada will add $100 million of aid to developing countries particularly vulnerable to climate change," Harper said.
"This help will go to the countries that are least advanced and small insular states, especially in Africa, the Caribbean and the South Pacific."
Harper also voiced the need for the world to keep trade routes open and fight protectionism as the planet spins through a financial slowdown.
Developing countries in particular need access to trade opportunities, he said.
"We have to remember that the countries of the south are certainly not responsible and not the source of this particular crisis in any way, shape or form," Harper said of the global economic downturn.

We can't just blame big companies on how damaged the planet is. We have the power to overcome them all. Its time to stand up for ourselves and take up some responsibility; not for a better future, but for a future at least.

It’s really ASSuring that our Prime Minister’s first order of business after re-election is to help others rather than concentrating on matters at home. Very nice! It compares to after the last election when our then new Prime Minister gave up on $1billion in duties collected from Canadian lumber companies to the US.
Way to go Stephen but what about CANADA?

Thank you for using our photos . This will help in highlighting our plight in Trinidad and Tobago. We are currently fighting The Essar Steel Company of India. They are planning to destroy a vibrant fishing industry. Great story.
