A coyote’s ears and snout appear long and pointed, especially in relation to the size of the head. They can generally be distinguished from their much larger relative, the grey wolf, by an overall slight appearance when compared to the massive 75 to 125 pound stockiness of the bigger canid. The coyote is a common predator in YNP, often observed traveling alone or in packs through the wide-open valleys, while hunting small mammals.
