NP Rank:
High winds batter Britain
"Britain was lashed with high winds and heavy rain last night as the summer came to an abrupt end.
There was also heavy rain in London and the South East.
The Met Office issued severe weather warnings for parts of Scotland last night as torrential rain and high winds descended on much of the country overnight.
South west Scotland and Lothian were expected to get up to 2.75ins of rain overnight, with North East England and Yorkshire warned it could face disruption with heavy showers.
I didn't notice any bad weather in the night. My garden is completely dry but there is a howling gale outside all day. Leaves and twigs are all over the ground. I live next to a stream but it's very low at the moment, which is a good sign.
If it does rain, it's the kind of day to turn your brolly inside out.

Vancouver is having bad weather too at the moment - I was woken up by a thunderstorm in the middle of the night and today it's raining on and off. I think it's officially the end of summer.. :(

Yes, it looks like it. I love the beginnings of Autumn though. I love the misty mornings, sharp weather and wind. All very Wuthering Heights.
However, cold weather in Vancouver is something to dread. I was there for 3 weeks and I nearly left on the 3rd. I was in freezing cold youth hostel with no curtains in the windows. Having coming from Oz I had hardly any warm clothes, which didn't help. I ended up staying in a hostel in Granville Island, where it was warm and the people were friendly, although some of the 'regulars' used to die there. I think it was called The Granville Hotel, run by a friendly British bloke in 1988. Not sure if it is still there now. The cold was one of the worst things about Vancouver, but the sunsets made up for it.
