Historic Quebec City Building Burns Down

CBC News Canada reports the damage is estimated around $100,000

The building Palais Montcalm is a landmark in the City.

The fire started on the third floor although the cause in not yet known.

QUEBEC CITY (AP) -- One of Quebec's most historic buildings has caught fire and collapsed. No injuries have been reported.

Witnesses said the fire Friday at the Quebec City Armoury was followed by an explosion.

Most of the building collapsed about two hours later, leaving only a brick wall and two towers at the main entrance.

Police say they do not know what caused the fire.

Sunday, April 06, 2008. It is reported that the Regiments Soldiers are vowing to rebuild the building to it's former glory, using the most of the stones from the original building.
