A number of top Hollywood shows such as 'CSI' and 'Dancing With The Stars' have agreed to turn off the lights on their sets for Earth hour - one hour between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on March 28th. All lights will be turned out except non-essential ones.

Edward Norton, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, members of the L.A. Kings, Alanis Morissette, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Jennette McCurdy, Baron Davis, Big Kenny of Big & Rich, Tom Bergeron of "Dancing with the Stars," Will.I.Am, Isabella Rossellini, Edward James Olmos, Mary Hart of "Entertainment Tonight," George Lopez, Janeane Garofalo, Linkin Park and others will join hundreds of millions of people around the world in demanding action on climate change.

Earth Hour is a global movement against climate change, and if everyone turned off their lights for one hour that day it will send a message that more is needed to be done to help save our planet.

The United Nations will also be honouring Earth Hour by turning off all non-essential lights at their Headquarters in New York and other UN buildings around the world, as well as the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) offices located in Nairobi.
The UN want to establish some support ahead of the climate change conference in Copenhagen this December.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says:

"It promises to be the largest demonstration of public concern about climate change ever attempted. People will be telling their representatives to seal a deal in Copenhagen, a deal at the climate change talks that will protect people and the planet,"

Earth Hour was started two years ago in Australia and has generated lots of support in that time. Many famous landmarks are turned also turned off around the world to send a message that something needs to be done and that people need to take notice.

I'm glad that the UN is also involved, which will set a good example to the member nations.

Thanks for another good piece about this topic, Amy.

It is a great way to bring climate change into awareness, and everyone can participate, instead of feeling so helpless. It is a great start.

Paul and I joined in and once again had a blast being a part of Earth Hour, and In fact we went past the hour and did two not realizing we had, but we had a great time. Spent the time with me reading to my husband Paul by candle light at the sinning room table.Thing is, we need more Political support but NOT just in the big cities but also in all the smaller townships as well. We need for more of them to step up and support this effort and become more of a soulution than the problem. Big cities make a difference BUT the smaller townships would to if they all get together and step up. I think Paul and I were the ONLY ones in all the Crystal Lake that did it again this year. we joined and did it last year as well. And chicago?? sure they turned out the lights on the bigger places, BUT the Mayor still has places he supports that burn coal and fuel so not much on climate change, in my book anyway. Can't be half grren but still support pollution. One way or the others, and we don't need any more pollution than what Chicago already has.

IF the apartment we live in was OURS outright, it would be ALL GREEN!
