Today, I was at the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere, where I am a docent. The zoo is on the property of an estate formerly owned by the Croft family. We decorated the house for the holidays as it would have been decorated in the 19th century.
If anyone is wanting to make their holiday decorations more green this year, here are some great ideas. We used magnolia leaves, holly sprigs with berries and magnolia buds to make natural sprays for the columns in front of the house. These can be returned back to nature in a compost pile, after the holidays.
The tree was decorated with strands of popcorn. Green and red paper were also used for garlands on the tree. Paper dolls and homemade ornaments from fabrics and laces were hung on the tree.
All can be recycled or reused.

Hope you do not mind I used this photo in my story on holding the line on Christmas spending to reduce stress in this difficult time. It seemed to go with the theme.
