Mississippi River Flooding: Homebrew Levee Holds Back Flood Waters

Several households constructed their own levees to hold back the Yazoo River as it flooded the area around Vicksburg, Mississippi. The flooding of the Mississippi River caused the Yazoo, a tributary, to flood as well.

Not all of the homemade levees worked, but some did: photographer Scott Olson got some amazing and surreal aerial shots of homemade levees doing what they were designed to do.
