Homemade Ornaments Fill Homes With Seasonal Scents
Homemade ornaments fill homes with seasonal scentsBY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS • December 11, 2008
Fresh-cut trees have a wonderful smell by themselves, but they do wane over time. You can add the scent of the holidays to your tree — and bring a freshness to an artificial one — with homemade ornaments that offer a treat for the nose as well as the eyes.
Marcie McGoldrick, editorial director of holiday and crafts at Martha Stewart Living, says balsam sachets, made from small drawstring muslin bags, are easy and fill your home with a sense of the outdoors. They can be hung on the tree, in closets, or placed in an attractive bowl in the bathroom. (The bags are available at specialty stores and online.)
A favorite item we used to make was to stick cloves into oranges.

Oranges and cloves smell great together and they'll last for months. They make a fresh change from the traditional red and green Holiday decorations and you can customize the clove pattern on the orange to make it uniquely yours.
